The Full Moon has now passed, but it won’t disappear from view quite yet. The Moon will still look almost completely illuminated tonight as it begins to wane, with only a small difference from yesterday.
What is today’s Moon phase?
As of Sunday, Sept. 27, NASA’s Daily Moon Guide tracker tells us the Moon is in the Waning Gibbous phase, with 99% of its surface visible.
There’s still so much to see tonight, including the Mare Imbrium, Mare Vaporum, and Kepler Crater which can be spotted without visual aids. If you have binoculars, they’ll also help you see the Clavius Crater, the Alphonsus Crater, and the Archimedes Crater. Finally, if you have access to a telescope, you’ll see the Apollo 14 and 15 landing spots, and the Rima Ariadaeus.
When is the next Full Moon?
The next Full Moon will take place on October 25 or 26, depending on your timezone.
