It means managing people, money, and programs, year after year, in a community that expects both stability and growth. That combination of spiritual work and practical management is what makes his career worth a closer look from a leadership standpoint, not just a religious one.
An Early Foundation in Mangalore
Fr. D’Sa grew up in Mangalore, India, in a Catholic family where church life was central to daily routine. He was ordained to the priesthood there before his career took him across the world. That early grounding, in a household where religion was not a side interest but a structuring force, shaped how he later approached parish work: as something to be built deliberately, not just maintained.
Where Did Fr. Ranjan D’Sa Study?
After ordination, Fr. D’Sa moved to New York to continue his studies at Fordham University, where he earned a master’s degree in pastoral care and counselling. He also holds a master’s degree in philosophy from his studies in India. The pairing matters. Philosophy gave him a framework for reasoning through ideas. Pastoral counselling gave him tools for sitting with people in distress. Few business leaders train this deliberately in both the conceptual and the interpersonal sides of their work, but a parish, like any organization, runs on both.
