Since 19 January 2026, that model has largely stopped working.
Under new Gambling Commission rules, wagering requirements on bonuses are capped at 10x, so a £10 bonus can require no more than £100 of play before winnings are released. The regulator notes that requirements of 50x or higher were common in the past. Operators are also banned from promotions that depend on customers using two or more gambling products, such as a sports bet combined with a session on slots.
The changes follow the government’s 2023 gambling white paper, High Stakes: Gambling Reform for the Digital Age, published in April 2023, and a Gambling Commission consultation that autumn. The aim is plain: offers that customers can understand before they sign up, and fewer incentives that pull people across several products at once. The start date was originally set for December 2025 and later moved to January 2026, giving operators extra time to rework their promotions.
