THE proposed 4.3% increase in funding for the Department of Science and Technology’s (DoST) scholarship programs is expected to support 67,504 scholars nationwide next year, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said.
In a statement on Tuesday, the DBM said that the budget of the DoST Scholarship Programs is programmed at P8.67 billion under the National Expenditure Plan 2027, 4.34% higher than the P8.31 billion for this year.
The proposed funding will support 2,407 additional beneficiaries, expanding opportunities for young Filipinos to pursue education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Of the total allocation, P7.55 billion will go to the DoST-Science Education Institute, which administers undergraduate and graduate scholarships and advanced specialized training, while P1.12 billion will go to the Philippine Science High School System for the provision of specialized secondary education in STEM.
