Why Mets may struggle to plug their new area of need

Why Mets may struggle to plug their new area of need
ShareShareShareShareShare

The Mets look great but are suddenly in serious need of left-handed relief help with their two main pen southpaws, A.J. Minter and Danny Young, revealed to have injuries that could sideline them all season.

The hope is that just-signed Brooks Raley helps, and they promoted Génesis Cabrera, another veteran. It’s slim pickings out there. If the injury-wrecked Orioles fall further, Keegan Akin and Gregory Soto could make sense, but most non-contenders lack strong pen lefties.

Mets people say they aren’t worried about top-ranked prospect Brandon Sproat despite a 5.48 ERA and diminished velocity. They attribute the righty Sproat’s rough start to Syracuse weather, even worse than here.
