Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, is a conspiracy caper that plunges you into a perpetual state of doubt. What is Bugonia about?
A remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia follows Teddy (Plemons), a bike-riding beekeeper and conspiracy theorist. He believes the state of the world is due to aliens living among us — one being no-nonsense big pharma CEO Michelle Fuller (Stone). Teddy, along with his cousin Don (Aidan Delbis), enacts a plan to kidnap Michelle and uncover the truth. What follows is a battle of wills, uncomfortable discussions of capitalist greed, class politics, and whether or not humanity is worth saving.
