Digital healthcare company Truepill and healthcare technology prescription specialist firm ScriptDrop are teaming up to combine ScriptDrop’s same-day prescription delivery service with Truepill’s pharmacy platform, which will give patients the ability to choose their own retail pharmacy for medication delivery via ScriptDrop’s two-hour service.
The partnership allows patients to visit their local pharmacy while providing pharmacists with the means to interact directly with patients.
The alliance with ScriptDrop broadens Truepill’s fulfillment choices by including same-day, nationwide delivery on top of retail pick-up and mail order fulfillment through Truepill pharmacies.
“By integrating ScriptDrop’s efficient same-day delivery service into our comprehensive digital pharmacy platform, we are empowering patients with more choices that cater to their individual needs and therapy requirements, ensuring a seamless, reliable experience from prescription to doorstep,” Paul Greenall, chief executive officer of Truepill, said in a statement.
“This collaboration with ScriptDrop marks a major milestone in our mission to deliver patient-centered healthcare and is a testament to why Truepill continues to be the first choice for life sciences leaders seeking to provide patients with frictionless access to their medications paired with the highest quality multi-modal pharmacy support.”
THE LARGER TREND
In 2022, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued Truepill with an Order to Show Cause for unlawfully dispensing thousands of prescription stimulants used to treat ADHD, including Adderall.
The DEA alleged the company filled more than 72,000 controlled-substance prescriptions between September 2020 and September 2022, of which 60% were for stimulants, including generic forms of Adderall.
The agency said Truepill also dispensed controlled substances for prescriptions that weren’t issued for legitimate medical purposes, unlawfully exceeded the 90-day supply limits and filled prescriptions written by prescribers who did not possess a proper state license.
That same year, Trupill also partnered with COVID-19 testing company Curative to offer patients access to Truepill’s COVID-19 virtual care platform, and the company tapped Sid Viswanathan as its CEO.
In 2021, Truepill secured $142 million in Series D financing, bringing its total raise to $256 million and its valuation to $1.6 billion. A year before, the company secured $75 million in a Series C funding round, two months after closing its $25 million Series B round.
ScriptDrop raised $15 million in a growth round in 2020, bringing its total raise at the time to $27 million in 2022. Oio Innovation Fund, M25 and Rev1Ventures took part in the investment.
Last year, Uber Health collaborated with ScriptDrop to manage delivery of prescriptions from pharmacies within a service area and let people track when their prescription would arrive.
