Sam Smith had liposuction after being bullied
While speaking to host Penn, Sam explained: “My queerness was something I could handle and have a grasp on. But my weight was the hardest thing and weirdly what I got teased the most about.”
The Grammy winner was supported by their female friends. However, “angry” boys would pick on them.
As a result, Sam had liposuction on their “growing chest” at just 13, stating that “getting teased” for their appearance was the main reason for this decision. Their parents were supportive of this choice as they could see how much it was “crippling” Sam.
The star also said they “couldn’t go swimming”, explaining that “getting changed in the locker room was hell”.
“It was all a struggle with food and stuff,” Sam continued, adding: “The liposuction worked but it was also a nightmare because they gave me a bandage, which is like a bra, which I was only meant to wear for a month.”
However, Sam did joke about the situation, expressing: “But if I wore the bandage it meant I would get to the front of the lunch queue because everyone had to be sensitive about my chest. So I kept the bandage on for nearly a year.”
