USA defenseman Cole Hutson was stretchered off the ice and taken to a hospital after being struck by a puck near the back of his head or neck during a World Juniors game against Switzerland on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
Hutson, 19, was discharged after a brief stay at the hospital and rejoined his teammates after the team’s 2-1 win. USA Hockey said Hutson is considered day-to-day.
“It was a scary situation, no question,” USA coach Bob Motzko told reporters, adding he didn’t think Hutson got hit in the head. “It’s a very close group of guys, and they responded. It knocks you back. The building was silent. But the good news is that he was released and is back with us.”
