Frank Lebouef hits out at Chelsea technique amid Mikailo Mudryk discuss | Soccer

The Blues spent £280million in the summer transfer window but parted company with the manager who oversaw that outlay, Thomas Tuchel, early in September.

That splurge now looks anything but a coherent strategy with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella doing little to justify their hefty price tags.

Whether that trio fits into new manager Graham Potter’s vision remains to be seen, but former Chelsea defender Lebouef fears the former Brighton boss won’t be given the time he needs to rebuild the squad.

Chelsea host champions Manchester City on Thursday having won just once in their last seven Premier League games leaving their top four hopes in tatters.

The Blues are looking to strengthen again this month and look set to table bids for Mudryk as well as Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez but Lebouef believe interest in both players is another indication of Chelsea just looking to throw money at the various problems they have.

He told ESPN FC: ‘We’ve seen many times at Chelsea coaches coming and going. It’s sad in a way if Mr Potter knew he had no fingerprints to put inside the club he shouldn’t have signed because he knew he would be in a washing machine.

‘Somebody has to pay the price and it’s always the coach because you cannot change five or six players. You have to change in order to be better five or six players who normally plays.

‘We all see what is going wrong inside that team. I don’t think Mr Potter has a chance to build something I thought he was picked to change the way of Chelsea not buying stars, building something with young players, Mason Mount for example and others who could bring something to the club.

‘We see all those players struggling because there is no idea and no plan whatsoever. The only one who can have a plan is Mr Potter because he’s the head of the team.

‘It’s not Mr Boehly, it’s not anybody from the board it can’t even be the players. If he cannot buy the players he wants and is forced to play the player the board signed it’s going to be a big mess. It’s what we have right now.

‘You buy players, put everyone together but you don’t know what to do with it so it’s a big mess.’
