David Wright congratulated Pete Alonso for passing the former Mets third baseman on the team’s all-time home run list, telling him to set his sights on Darryl Strawberry, the franchise record holder.
Alonso moved to second all-time for home runs in Mets franchise history with his two-homer day in a 13-5 win over the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday and leapfrogged Wright in the process.
“Just a huge congratulations,” Wright said in a video for Alonso. “You are one of the premier power hitters in the game. You easily passed me. Set Straw in your sights and now go get him. Congratulations, my man.”
