Ready to go electric? What to know before making the switch

As World EV Day puts electric vehicles (EVs) in the spotlight, Pioneer Insurance is reminding Filipinos that EV ownership comes with unique considerations. With the right coverage in place, motorists can embrace the EV experience with greater confidence and be better prepared for the road ahead.

Amid rising fuel prices, the idea of plugging in instead of filling up has become increasingly compelling. In fact, the country’s EV ecosystem continues to expand, with 472 recognized EV models, 258 accredited charging-station providers, and 1,569 charging points nationwide, as reported by the Department of Energy as of March 2026.

But for many motorists, shifting to electric can bring many what-ifs: What happens if my EV runs out of power mid-journey? What if the battery gets damaged? If my EV requires specialized repairs, what support is available?

What happens when something goes wrong?

While insurance cannot remove every risk that comes with going electric, the right coverage can help motorists manage some of the financial and practical realities of EV ownership.

With this, Pioneer Insurance is paving the way for electric vehicle insurance in the Philippines through Pioneer EV One, an insurance product designed exclusively for EV owners.

“Motorists should feel energized to make the switch. The ‘what ifs’ of EV ownership can feel daunting, but Pioneer EV One was designed around the unique realities EV owners face, helping them enjoy the perks of going electric,” said Iluminado Garcia, Pioneer Head of Motor Insurance.

Its Range Anxiety Cover provides towing assistance if an insured EV runs out of power midway, while the Enhanced Battery Coverage addresses eligible losses affecting the vehicle’s batteries, securing you from expenses related to one of the most important and potentially costly components of an EV.

EV One also covers eligible Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technologies and provides a Loss of Use benefit for eligible transportation expenses while an insured EV undergoes covered repairs.

All benefits are subject to applicable policy terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions.

The future is electric

As more Filipinos plug into electric mobility, Pioneer sees an opportunity to secure EV owners while helping make the road to adoption easier and more reassuring.

“Whether they drive fully electric, hybrid, or a gas-powered car, we want motorists to feel ready for the road ahead. By making the transition to electric easier and more secure, together, we can help build a greener future for mobility,” Garcia added.
