America has a new generative AI chatbot. Well, not really, but President Trump is pushing for citizens to stop clicking through government websites and just ask a chatbot.
On Tuesday, the White House launched a revamped America.gov, an AI-powered portal meant to be a single front door to the federal government. Trump signed an executive order establishing America.gov during the event, describing the site as “a restoration of America’s founding promise.”
It works like most AI chatbots. You enter a query (strictly related to the federal government), and the chatbot searches it up. According to the site, America.gov searches information across roughly 29,000 government websites and returns answers based on official federal sources.
Ask America.gov what powers it has, and you won’t get far. When Mashable asked which language models it runs on, the chatbot replied: “I do not publish which language models power America.” (Yes, it calls itself “America.”)
