Anthropic’s Claude will start watermarking AI-generated content in compliance with EU rules, the company announced on Tuesday.
In a Claude support document, Anthropic wrote that it has signed the EU AI Act’s Article 50(2) Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, and explains how it plans to put those rules into practice.

Models launched in the EU on or after Aug. 2, 2026, wrote Anthropic, will support watermarking at launch. This includes output from all models including Claude Platform (API), Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude Tag. Generated text will have embedded watermarks, while generated files will include “digitally signed provenance metadata where supported.”
